Carmen Labs

ABOUT CARMEN LABS

We build AI that leaves useful things behind.

Carmen Labs is a small product lab focused on making everyday work with files, folders, documents, and operational data feel less like prompt management and more like actual progress.

Our bias is simple: AI should produce artifacts people can inspect, rerun, edit, and keep. Carmen Desktop is where that belief becomes a workspace. MView is the open format underneath the living views it creates.

01

Local-first work

Start from the files teams already trust: PDFs, spreadsheets, reports, folders, exports, and internal records.

02

Durable interfaces

Turn a one-off analysis into a view, dashboard, checklist, parser, or workflow that stays connected to the source.

03

Human control

Let agents draft, classify, transform, and explain while people keep the context, approvals, and final decisions.

What the lab is for

A workshop for practical AI products, not demos.

We test ideas against messy real-world material: tax documents, business folders, operational backlogs, CSV exports, reports, and the strange edge cases that make software useful.

Artifacts over chats
Open specs over lock-in
Workflows over features
Clarity over magic

Current focus

Carmen Desktop

A desktop workspace where agents help people understand, reshape, and act on local files.

MView

An open specification for portable, mutated file views built from a manifest, parser, and React component.

If a tool cannot be inspected, it cannot be trusted.

That is the operating principle behind Carmen Labs.
